Licensing Requirements
Veterinarians must be licensed (at both the state and national level) before being able to practice veterinary medicine.
The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) is traditionally conducted in October/November, March, and July/August of each year (dates vary by year). Based on the LCSVM being provisionally accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council On Education (AVMA COE), senior LCSVM students are eligible to take the NAVLE in October/November or March of their senior year since these dates fall within ten months of their graduation (the last June of their senior year).
Senior LCSVM students applying for the NAVLE through the state of Arkansas must:
1) Meet NAVLE eligibility requirements established by the International Council for Veterinary Assessment (ICVA) (www.icva.net/).
2) Complete the following applications:
- a)Arkansas veterinary licensure (agri.arkansas.gov/VetLicensingPortal/Guest/Home/Applicants)
- b)NAVLE (icva.net/)
3) Submit the Arkansas veterinary licensure application to the Arkansas Board of Animal Health 1) in advance of the NAVLE and 2) no later than 30 days before the Arkansas veterinary licensure written examination. The Arkansas veterinary licensure written examination is given annually, typically in June.
Note: Based on our provisional accreditation by the AVMA COE, our curriculum meets the requirements for professional licensure in all 50 of the United States. However, some NAVLE eligibility requirements differ between state/territory licensing boards. Please consult local regulatory guidelines. LCSVM students applying in Arkansas are required to pay a fee to the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (www.aavsb.org) to have their score transferred to another state/territory.
