Lyon College School of Dental Medicine (LCSDM) FAQs

Q. Where can I find detailed information about the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) program?

A.
Program information can be found at lyon.edu/dental.

Q. When do students begin the program?

A.
Each cohort will begin only once a year in July.

Q. Is there out-of-state tuition for non-Arkansas residents?

A.
The Lyon College School of Dental Medicine does not charge out-of-state tuition for non-Arkansas students.

Q. What is the cost of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine DMD program?

A.
The program follows a continuous, three-year, nine-trimester model. Tuition and fees for each trimester are $34,000. Additional expenses such as housing, meals, transportation, and miscellaneous costs are not included in this amount and should be factored into a student’s overall budget.

Q. Are there additional fees required?

A.
There are some exam fees in years two and three that are not included in the tuition and fees listed above.

Q. How often will I need to pay tuition?

A.
Students will be billed three times per academic year, each for one-third of the annual tuition cost. If loans are used to cover tuition, they will be disbursed to student accounts each time billing occurs.

Q. Are scholarships available to help lower tuition costs?

A.
The Lyon College School of Dental Medicine (LCSDM) does not offer institutional scholarships at this time. However, private or nonprofit organizations may offer competitive scholarships. Additionally, military or service-related opportunities may provide funding for tuition and fees. At this time, LCSDM does not have a specific list of these opportunities.

Q. Are student loans available?

A.
Student loans are available to cover all or part of tuition. Federal loans, which are not credit-based, require students to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Interest rates on these loans are currently in the 8-9% range, as set by the U.S. Department of Education. Once a loan is issued, its interest rate remains fixed until repayment or consolidation.

Q. What if I am unable to file a FAFSA?

A.
Students who cannot file a FAFSA may apply for loans through private lenders. Credit scores will be considered by the lender in determining loan eligibility.

Q. What is the process for obtaining a loan?

A.
Students seeking federal loans must complete a FAFSA at studentaid.gov. Students applying for private loans must do so through their chosen lender’s website. Once the application is submitted, the LCSDM Financial Aid office will coordinate with the lender, receive the funds, and apply them to the student’s account at designated times throughout the academic year.

Q. Are there additional requirements for receiving a loan?

A.
Before federal loan proceeds can be disbursed, students must complete online loan entrance counseling if they have not done so for the type of loan they are using. The Lyon College Financial Aid office will notify students if this requirement applies to them. Loan entrance counseling is available at studentaid.gov.

Q. Is the LCSDM still accepting applications for the inaugural class?

A. Yes! Applications can be started at https://lyoninstitute.com/dentistry-program/ today. The minimum requirements include a DAT AA score of 17 and a science GPA of 2.8. Applications that do not meet these criteria will not move forward in the review process.

Q. Does LCSDM accept international students?

A. At this time, LCSDM is only able to enroll U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Efforts are being made to allow international student enrollment, but this may take several years before changes occur. Any updates will be widely advertised when they happen.

Q. Having trouble with the account portal?

A. Email dental@lyon.edu with a detailed description of the issue. A response will be provided as soon as possible.

Q. Will other standardized tests be accepted (e.g. Canadian DAT or Board exams)?

A. Only the U.S. DAT is accepted as part of the application process.
